a valentines day to remember

It takes more than the humdrum chocolate, champagne and flowers to impress anyone in this day and age.
If you’re not one to settle for anything less than a love that’s extraordinary, then why settle for a Valentine’s Day that is?
Go ahead. Shun the city and whisk your beloved away to the beautiful south of the Island where sunsets beckon and stars seduce for a day of complete relaxation and pampering or an adventure of your own.

The town of Bentota is only an hour and a half south of Colombo and its soft sand beaches at twilight will set the mood for what could be the most enchanting night of your life.

You could choose to go for a couple’s massage at a local Ayurvedic spa where traditional medicine and ancient remedies will calm both body and mind. If sunbathing and ultimate relaxation are not what you had envisioned as part of your romantic getaway, water sports could be the key to your lover’s heart. With rides ranging from tame to thrilling, you are bound to have an experience you’ll never forget.

Further down south about 3 hours away from Colombo is the town of Tangalle. Here you will find the perfect blend of local mystery and ancient romance as you discover a myriad local wonders together.

Begin your day at the Mulkirigala Rock Temples also known as the Raja Maha Viharaya. Climb through rich foliage until you reach the astonishing temples here built at various times ranging from 3rd Century B.C. to the early 1800s around the time Sri Lanka was colonized by the British. Look closely and you will find inscriptions dating back to 6-7 Century AD. Feast your eyes on the well-preserved wall paintings in the caves depicting mankind indulging in forbidden fruit only to face eternal damnation. After the morning exploration, perhaps a sumptuous picnic lunch will be the respite you need after the trek through the various terraces of the Rock Temple.
For those of you looking for a different sort of pastime, how about taking up surfing on a whim? Sign up for lessons together at any one of the numerous Surf Camps set up along the shoreline of the main beach which is surrounded by rocks on one side and a hill on the other – making it a great beach for beginners to learn how to surf! Should you choose to stay overnight in Bentota or Tangalle, we invite you stay at any one of our 6 properties – Taru Villas – Rock Villa, Taru Villas – Long House, Taru Villas – The Muse, Taru Villas – River Cottage, Taru Villas – Mawella or ; Taru Villas – Tangalle Social

Allow our staff to organize a romantic dinner under the stars right on the beach or a secluded corner on our expansive property. Our chefs will ensure you dine on the finest local fare or your favorite comfort food while our bartender whips up a creation of your choice, perhaps to be named after your beloved!
Swap the rooftop bars and city lights for crashing waves and star-kissed nights.
