Kande Viharaya

Located inland from the city of Bentota, the Kande Viharaya has long been a major place of worship in the southern coast, while also being an important landmark for many travellers. Built during the early 1700s, the Kande Viharaya possesses some interesting features such as Kandyan era frescoes, a bodhi tree that is 300 years old, and even depictions of the Jataka Tales (Lord Buddha’s past lives).

When you’re staying at one of our villas in Bentota, whether The Muse, Rock Villa, Long House or River Cottage, the temple can be easily reached in 15 minutes. Visit by yourself or with your family, friends or partner for a glimpse of the unique culture of the country. Remember to dress in appropriate attire, covering shoulders and knees.
