A Look into the Mulkirigala Raja Maha Viharaya

The Mulkirigala Raja Maha Viharaya is believed to have been built by King Saddhatissa of the Anuradhapura Kingdom, according to the Mahavamsa.
It is widely believed that the Bo tree within the premises of the temple is one of the 32 saplings of the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi that was scattered throughout the island.
There are many features of interest, including a large reclining Buddha that has been intricately carved by the masons of old.
The temple is surrounded by four rocks known as Benagala, Kondagala, Bisogala and Seelawathiegala.
