Yala is Sri Lanka’s most famous national park. Situated 30 minutes away from Taru Villas Yala, the 979 sq.km park comprises of light forest, scrub, grassy plains and brackish waters, is home to an exquisite variety of wildlife. The park houses 44 species of mammals, including the wild Asian elephant and sloth bear; 215 species of birds; an innumerable number of reptiles; as well as the highest concentration of leopards in an area.

A Look into Yala National Park

Yala National Park is the country’s second largest national park.
The park is home to the ‘Big Three’—elephants, leopards and sloth bears, and you are almost guaranteed to see at least one.
Yala is one of the oldest national parks; it was declared a national park in 1938 along with Wilpattu.
The park is important for the conservation of Sri Lankan elephants, leopards and aquatic birds.
