Welcome
At Taru Villa Maia, sustainability is part of how we operate, care for our team, welcome our guests and protect the character of Habarana.
We are strengthening responsible practices across our daily operations – from the way we manage energy, water and waste to the way we purchase, support our people, engage our community and care for the surrounding environment.
This guide shares what we are already doing and how you can be part of it during your stay.
What we are doing at Taru Villa Maia
People community and responsible hospitality
Our focus in daily operations
- Keeping operational and natural areas clean and well maintained.
- Improving waste segregation, storage, tracking and recycling arrangements.
- Reducing avoidable food and packaging waste.
- Using environmental information to identify improvement opportunities.
- Strengthening responsible purchasing and supplier engagement.
- Building sustainability awareness among employees and guests.
How you can support our efforts
Your choices can complement the work of our team without taking away from the comfort of your stay.
Use energy and water thoughtfully
- Switch off lights, fans and air-conditioning when they are not needed.
- Keep doors and windows closed while the air-conditioning is operating.
- Use water carefully and tell us if you notice a leak or unnecessary water loss.
- Let us know when you would like towels or bed linen changed, helping us avoid unnecessary washing.
Help us prevent waste
- Use the correct bins so materials can be separated and managed responsibly.
- Avoid unnecessary single-use plastics and return reusable or refillable items to the designated place.
- Take only the food you expect to enjoy; our team will be pleased to serve more if needed.
- Choose responsibly sourced products and avoid items made from protected plants, animals, coral, shells, ivory or wild animal skins.
Respect nature and local communities
- Observe wildlife quietly and from a safe distance; never feed, touch, chase or disturb wild animals.
- Follow the instructions of trained guides and the rules of parks, protected areas and cultural sites.
- Ask permission before photographing or filming people. A parent or legal guardian must give permission for a child.
- Support local producers, guides, craftspeople and businesses where possible.
- Avoid littering, excessive noise and behaviour that could disturb local people or damage natural and cultural places.
