Tsunami Museum

A stark reminder of the Boxing Day Tsunami that hit the island in 2004, the Tsunami Museum is one of the few places in the southern coast that tells us the story of how the natural disaster affected the local communities in the island, along with the resilience of these societies. Funded and created by the locals in Hikkaduwa, a visit to the museum is not for the faint-hearted, as it depicts several photographs, wreckages, and even models of how the tidal wave wreaked havoc on the southern coast.

When planning your excursions around Hikkaduwa, stop over at the Tsunami Museum too, located less than 10 minutes away from our Taru Villas property.
