Located just a few kilometres from the Galle Fort, the Mahamodara Sea Turtle Hatchery is a conservation project that is aimed at preserving Sri Lanka’s rare and exotic species of turtles. Due to poaching, pollution and many other factors, it is difficult for turtles to breed and lay their eggs in safe conditions, thus rendering them on the Endangered List.
The Mahamodara Sea Turtle Hatchery aims at conserving these endangered species that visit Sri Lanka’s southern shores to nest. Visit the hatchery to learn more about these graceful creatures - it’s less than 5 km away from our villas in Galle Fort.
