Sithulpawwa is an ancient Buddhist monastery which is situated within Yala National Park. The temple, which is believed to have been constructed in the 2nd BC, is placed on a rocky outcrop that is surrounded by shrub jungle. The temple contains a large number of stupas, cave temples, Buddha statues, a stupa house and an image. Although the temple is the result of commissions given by various Kings throughout the years, it was initially created by King Kavantissa, the father of the fabled King Dutugamunu.
