The Hummanaya Blow Hole is one of the more intriguing attractions in Tangalle. The blow hole gets its name from the fact that it blows huge fountains of water up in the air due to pressure build up in the gorge. Located in a small fishing village known as Kudawella, the Hummanya Blow Hole is a mere 30-minute drive from either of our private villas in Tangalle.

Climb up the narrow stairs before reaching the main attraction as a jet of refreshing sea water shoots to the sky, only to fall back on its eager, wide-eyed audience.

A Look into the Hummanaya Blow Hole

The Hummanaya Blow Hole is the largest in Sri Lanka and the second largest in the world.
It is widely believed that the natural fountain created reaches up to 30 metres in height.
On some days, especially during high tide or monsoon season, the spray of the blow hole is so strong that it can be felt at the bottom of the stairs leading to the viewing point.
