Rekawa Turtle Watch

The Rekawa Turtle Watch is conservation project dedicated to protecting the various endemic turtle species that nest on the warm, golden shores of Sri Lanka’s southern coast. With many turtles often found nesting in Rekawa, the conservation project protects the eggs until they are ready to be released back to the big blue. Visit the centre to learn more about their conservation efforts too.

A Look into Rekawa Turtle Watch

  • Between the months of April – July, roughly 5-15 turtles nest every night on the beach.
  • Between the months of October – January, roughly 1-2 nesting turtles can be spotted.
  • Turtle watching is always dependant on noise and light pollution, so spotting a nesting turtle requires patience and silence.
  • The centre is located approximately 45 minutes from our properties in Tangalle.
